Andy Stables was my friend.  Over many years, I also knew him as a researcher, a colleague, a co-author, a clear-minded author, and as my Head of Department at the University of Bath.  Of late, both kind of retired, we would walk, talk and go to pubs with the conversation always free-flowing.  We were planning to produce some podcasts, but his time caught up with us.  A great man.
